William Samuel Webb (Neil's great grandfather) was born on 16 December 1843 at Frederick Place, Bromley, Middlesex, to Alfred Webb and his wife Mary Ann (born Mary Ann Partridge). He became manager at Butler's Wharf (also known as Butlers Wharf) on the Thames, during which time he lived at 37 Thomas Street, Bermondsey.

William married Maria Alice Laccohee (Neil's great grandmother) who was born on 3 January 1844 in Walworth, Surrey. There is a page on her Laccohee ancestry.

William and Maria had the following children of whom we have any record.
  • Maria Alice Webb, Neil's grandmother
  • William Charles Webb (who also became a manager at Butler's Wharf - and whose son William Eric Webb was to follow in the same footsteps). We are in contact with his descendants.
  • Florence Amy Webb who married Frederick James Duck. We are in contact with her descendants.

William Samuel Webb died on 23 Sep 1904 at 14 Beaumont Street (registered in the London district of St Marylebone) after suffering bowel cancer for 6 months. Maria moved to Broadstairs where she survived him until 26 Sep 1919.
